Is it an Emergency to Have Your Tooth Removed?

As a child, it's exciting to lose a tooth. This is not true for adults, especially if it comes as a surprise and causes them to need one or more emergency tooth extractions. Patients often fail to recognize the urgency of dental care emergencies. But there are times when you might need emergency dental care in Downey because of a problem with your teeth. Even if you don't think your situation is an emergency, you should always call a dental office to find out more. Many problems can get worse if they aren't fixed. Dentists will always do everything they can to save the tooth, but if it can't be fixed, they may suggest an emergency tooth extraction. Unfortunately, sometimes the only way to stop the pain and get back to good oral health is to have an emergency tooth pulled.

A local anesthetic is used to make tooth extractions less painful. After the tooth is taken out, the dentist will tell you what to do to make sure you heal quickly and get better. Here are some reasons why you might need an emergency tooth extraction:

Broken or hurt tooth

Broken teeth can happen in many ways, like if you get hit in the mouth or trip and fall. Also, a tooth that has had a root canal or a large filling can break easily. If the break is near or below the gum line, the tooth needs to be taken out right away.

Tooth decay that is bad

When there is a lot of decay but still enough healthy tooth structure left, a filling, root canal, or crown can save the tooth. But if the decay is so bad that the tooth can't be fixed, the only thing that can be done is to take the tooth out.

Gum disease

In its early stages, gum disease can be fixed with professional dental cleaning and good oral hygiene at home. But when it gets to a later stage called periodontitis, the gums may recede a lot, leaving the teeth without much or any gum support. Often, the dentist will have to do an emergency tooth extraction to stop the disease from getting worse.
